On April 14, 2025, Congress had a very quiet day. The House of Representatives introduced 13 new bills, numbered H.R.2907 to H.R.2919, and three resolutions, but there were no votes or discussions about them. The Senate met briefly for a pro forma session, which is a short meeting where no real business is done, and they did not hold any committee meetings. The House also received messages from the President about continuing a national emergency related to Russia and changes to environmental rules, but again, no votes were taken. These actions are important because they show that Congress is starting to work on new laws, but the lack of votes means there is still a lot of discussion and planning to do before any new laws can be passed. Random excerpts from the Senate
“We stand at a crossroads in our nation’s history, where the very fabric of our democracy is being tested. It is not just about policies or party lines; it is about the soul of America. We must choose to uphold the values that have defined us for generations—freedom, justice, and equality for all. Let us not be swayed by fear or division, but instead unite in our common purpose to protect the rights of every citizen and ensure that our democracy remains strong and vibrant for future generations.”
— Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-NY)
“The time has come for us to confront the harsh realities of our immigration system, which has been broken for far too long. We cannot continue to ignore the suffering of families torn apart by outdated policies and bureaucratic red tape. It is our moral obligation to create a pathway to citizenship for those who contribute to our society and seek a better life. Let us not forget that America was built by immigrants, and it is our duty to honor that legacy by reforming a system that reflects our values of compassion and opportunity.”

Random excerpts from the House
“We are at a crossroads in our nation’s history. The decisions we make today will resonate for generations to come. We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the challenges that face our communities, from rising crime rates to the erosion of our values. It is our duty to stand up and fight for the future we believe in, to ensure that every American has the opportunity to thrive, not just survive. Let us not forget that our strength lies in our unity and our resolve to protect the American Dream for all.”
— Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21)
“The time for half-measures is over. We must take decisive action to protect our democracy from those who seek to undermine it. The threats we face are not just from foreign adversaries but from within our own borders. We must stand firm against the tide of misinformation and division that seeks to tear us apart. It is our responsibility to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote is counted, for the integrity of our elections is the bedrock of our republic.”
