- On September 15, 2025, President Donald J. Trump issued a memorandum to create a special group called the Memphis Safe Task Force to help stop violent crime in Memphis, Tennessee, which the document says had the highest violent crime rate in 2024. This Task Force is led by the Attorney General and includes many federal agencies like the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Homeland Security, working closely with state and local police and officials. The memo also directs the Secretary of War to ask Tennessee’s Governor to send National Guard troops to support these efforts under a law that allows the Guard to help with public safety. The goal is to increase police presence, enforce laws strictly, and improve cooperation between federal, state, and local forces to make Memphis safer. The memo says the Task Force will report back to the President and may recommend more actions if needed. This action affects law enforcement agencies, government officials, and residents of Memphis, aiming to reduce crime through a large federal and state effort. Read full document →

The Postal Regulatory Commission is reviewing changes the U.S. Postal Service wants to make to how it measures the speed and quality of its regular mail services. These changes are being looked at in two related cases, and the public can send their opinions by September 23, 2025. The Commission can update its rules if the current data about mail service is wrong or can be better, or if it’s needed for the public good. This matters because it helps make sure the Postal Service is honest and clear about how well it delivers mail, which affects everyone who sends or receives letters and packages. Read full document →

The U.S. Department of Agriculture made a new rule to help farmers who raise animals like cows and sheep when floods or wildfires hurt their land in 2023 and 2024. Farmers who lost money because they had to buy extra animal feed can apply for money from this program by October 31, 2025. They must also send some paperwork by November 2, 2026. This rule helps farmers in areas hit hard by floods or wildfires outside federal lands, giving them money to cover part of their extra feed costs—about 60% of one month’s feed cost for wildfires and 60% of three months’ feed cost for floods. This support is important because it helps farmers keep their animals healthy and their farms running after disasters. Read full document →

The government changed a rule about how top federal managers, called Senior Executive Service (SES) members, are rated for their work. Starting October 15, 2025, agencies must use a system that limits how many SES members can get the highest performance ratings, so only the best performers get top scores. This change affects over 90 federal agencies and about 8,400 SES members. It matters because before, almost all these managers got top ratings, even when some did not do a great job, which made it hard to tell who was really doing well. By making ratings more fair and honest, the government hopes to improve how well agencies serve the public and hold leaders more accountable. Read full document →
