On October 3, 2025, the Senate worked on several important issues. They passed a resolution supporting Choose Respect Day and agreed to a rule (
S.Res.412) to consider many government job nominations together. The Senate tried to start work on two bills to keep government funding going for the next year (
S.2882 and
H.R.5371) but did not have enough votes to end debate and move forward, with votes of 46-52 and 54-44 against ending debate. They planned to vote again on these bills on October 6. The Senate also made a plan to continue work on the National Defense Authorization Act (
S.2296), which funds the military for 2026. Meanwhile, the Senate began reviewing many nominations for government positions, including ambassadors and agency leaders. In the House, no votes were taken, but 19 new bills and 5 resolutions were introduced, and several reports on bills were filed. These actions are important because they affect government funding, military planning, and filling key government jobs.
